If you are planning a move, you need to know exactly what it is you will be moving because some things may call for specialty moving. Here are a few examples of such items:
Extremely Valuable Items
You probably consider all your items valuable to you, but some of them are more valuable than others. Consider a case in which you want to move the contents of an art gallery to an exhibition in another town or to another galley. Given the high values typically attached to artwork, such a move may involve items worth even millions of dollars, and this puts it squarely among the list of specialty moves.
Vehicles
Relocating vehicles also qualifies as a specialty move because vehicles require different handling from the usual moving boxes. For example, you don't pack a car and throw it into the back of a moving truck. First, you need a large moving truck that can handle your car or cars (assuming you have more than one). In fact, not all moving companies offer vehicle moving services. Don't forget that vehicles are not just cars, they include engine boats, trams, and aircrafts, among others.
Dangerous Items
Dangerous items also belong to the specialty group due to the precautions that must be taken while transporting them. In fact, most moving companies will not handle dangerous items during a standard move. That is why you will be told to empty your motorbike's fuel tank (fuel increases the risk of fire). It is also the same reason corrosive substances such as acid or explosive substances such as fireworks are prohibited by most movers.
Extremely Bulky or Heavy Items
Some items are very heavy and need special handling during loading and transportation. There are even very large items that cannot fit in regular trucks and must be carried by trucks designed to handle wide loads. Some items are included in this group not because of their size but due to their weight. Examples of items that require specialty moving due to their size or weight include pianos, machining tools such as a lathe, pool table, and construction equipment, among others.
Extremely Fragile Items
Imagine moving a ceiling-high glass cabinet, an antique chandelier piece, or a bathtub as you would move, say, a box of books. Try that and the items aren't likely to reach your destination safely. Such extremely fragile items also belong to this group of specialty moving because they require careful handling.
Therefore, even though you may not be able to count everything you are planning to move down to the last cup, your moving company should know about your major items. Your movers should know exactly what it is you are planning to move so that it can prepare the equipment and materials for the work.
